Mechanical Engineering - The University of Sheffield
Mechanical Engineering - The University of Sheffield Tim's PhD research was in the fields of fatigue, fracture mechanics and finite element stress analysis. Following that and a relatively brief period in a commercial testing facility, he spent several years at The University of Hong Kong undertaking research in the rather different subject of electrorheological fluids. During that time he lectured in Engineering Mathematics for one year and developed his interest in forensic engineering through first assisting with and then undertaking the investigation of road accidents and engineering failures. On returning to the UK, and following a period at Rolls Royce & Associates, Tim joined Hawkins in 1996. Since then he has been engaged in the investigation of a wide variety of failures, accidents and incidents to which there is an engineering or applied physics aspect. When the opportunity has arisen Tim has worked with his colleagues or with experts outside of Hawkins where a multi-disciplinary approach is required. Tim's cases have included road traffic accident reconstruction, escapes of water (plumbing and building services related losses), engineering component failures, crane accidents and incidents, the failure of vehicle components and personal injury matters. Tim is very familiar with the insurance and the legal processes and litigation. He has given evidence in the capacity of expert witness in Magistrates, Crown and High courts on numerous occasions and been involved in mediation. He has worked for both the Prosecution and Defence in Criminal cases and for Claimants and Defendants in Civil cases. He is experienced as a Single Joint Expert. He is skilled in communicating and explaining technical issues both orally and in writing. Tim has a particularly keen eye for detail whilst recognising and working to the wider picture and the practicalities of the Insurance and Legal sector. Tim is listed in the Expert Witness Directory. Tim is a Senior Associate based in the Cambridge office. |
