Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Chartered Engineer In 1980 Gary began his engineering career as a sponsored student with Brush Electrical Machines Ltd. After graduating he remained with the company working on the design of electrical propulsion equipment for rail vehicles. During this time he spent several months working in Canada, commissioning and solving design issues on new subway vehicles. In 1990 Gary joined Briway Transit Systems as the Power Electronics Engineer, part of a team of engineers designing and developing a prototype rapid transit vehicle. Gary's area of responsibility was the electric drive equipment and auxiliary electrical system. In 1992 Gary moved to Hunslet TPL (which later became Holec and finally Transys Projects Ltd) as a Senior Electrical Engineer, responsible for the design of electrical systems on passenger trains as well as fault finding and identification of design solutions. He also dealt with issues of electromagnetic compatibility between the electrical systems on trains and trackside signalling equipment and, as Manager - Safety Cases, the preparation of risk assessments and safety cases for new passenger trains. Gary brought his considerable experience in electrical engineering and problem solving skills to Hawkins in 1999 where he trained in fire and explosion investigation. Gary has since conducted numerous investigations into the causes of fires in domestic buildings, commercial premises and vehicles as well as several explosions involving gases and dust. Gary also specialises in the investigation of electrical failures and personal injuries caused by electricity. Gary is experienced in the legal process and has provided impartial expert advice in reports and by giving evidence orally. He is currently a Senior Associate and Regional Manager of the Birmingham office. |
