After Chris obtained his geology degree he completed a doctoral research project with scientists from the US Geological Survey and Washington State University, studying the chemistry of an active hydrothermal system and the associated precious and base metal mineralization in the spectacular Rocky Mountains. Following a brief spell working in the British Geological Survey's isotope laboratories in the relatively hospitable Nottinghamshire countryside he headed for the mountains again, this time for those in Palmer Land on the Antarctic Peninsula. Although most of his 6 years with the British Antarctic Survey were at their Cambridge base, the months he spent 'down under' and living in his mountain tent resulted in the publication of many scientific papers.

Chris then decided it was time to leave the world of academia and in 1998 he crossed to the other side of the city, and joined Hawkins at our Cambridge office. He has since completed the investigation of several hundred fires and explosions and has gained considerable experience in these fields. His investigations have ranged from small domestic to major industrial incidents, including the recent and infamous 'Brit Art' fire at Momart's London warehouse and a fire at Brussels National Airport, which resulted in the loss of an office and hangar complex containing several aircraft. One of his particular areas of expertise is the investigation of fires in vehicles and plant and he is often instructed to investigate these incidents by the manufacturer directly.

Chris is experienced in the litigation process and has prepared many reports for use in legal proceedings and has presented expert evidence in Court.

Chris is a Senior Associate and is based in the Glasgow office.
